Almost a Love Poem

Sometimes I dream of caterpillars
descending slowly
down a window. They come
in every color: rainbows
of little, wrinkled bodies
and tiny black feet.
Sometimes there are many,
though often it’s just
one, leaving behind a trail
of pollen on the glass. I
wonder why it’s pollen, tiny
crumbs of golden dust, once
I tasted it. On my tongue,
it was sweet.
Sometimes I dream of caterpillars,
but often I only dream
of you.
