Yesterday I Woke Up and You Were Still You

“What is it?” she asked

upon seeing  the strange.

“An automaton,” he said.

It was just as ordinary

as oranges without peels

and lemondrop trees.

“An automaton?” she asked,

going up to touch

the woman made of glass.

Her eyes perfect globes

of crystal, the better

to see through you with.

“Of course,” he said,

watching her watching

the automaton. It was

seeing mirrors backwards.
